I was inspired by Maxim Gorky’s legend of the fiery heart. The main character, Danko, tore out his own heart to light the way for people lost in the forest –people who had wanted to kill him earlier. When they finally left the forest, Danko fell and died. The people didn’t even notice; they trampled on Danko’s heart and scattered in all directions.
The kerosene lamp represents Danko’s heart. The black bottle caps symbolise human anger and the heartlessness of those who try to extinguish the spark of life in others. The caps are meant to give the impression of enclosing and suffocating the heart. Yet, the heart still pierces through the hard, cold metal, like a ray of sunlight breaking through a cloudy sky. With this, I want to show that the world depends on people with kind and bright hearts, as they illuminate the path for others with their light.
It took a total of 1,200 bottle caps and approximately 200 hours of work.

Inspirovala mě legenda o ohnivém srdci Maxima Gorkého. Hlavní postava, Danko, si vyrvala vlastní srdce, aby osvítila cestu lidem ztraceným v lese – lidem, kteří ho předtím chtěli zabít. Když nakonec opustili les, Danko padl a zemřel. Lidé si toho ani nevšimli; pošlapali jeho srdce a rozprchli se do všech stran.
Petrolejová lampa představuje Dankovo srdce. Černé víčka od lahví symbolizují lidský hněv a bezcitnost těch, kteří se snaží uhasit jiskru života v druhých. Víčka mají působit dojmem, že srdce obklopují a dusí. Přesto srdce proráží tvrdý, chladný kov, jako sluneční paprsek, který proniká skrz zataženou oblohu. Tím chci ukázat, že svět závisí na lidech s laskavým a zářivým srdcem, protože právě oni svým světlem osvětlují cestu ostatním.
Na vytvoření bylo potřeba celkem 1200 víček a přibližně 200 hodin práce.
